1. Practice Makes Perfect. This is definatly a MUST. Work through a piece step by step, and eventually memorize it to perform it well.
2. Experiment. Find out what suits you best. Do you find it easier to read music standing up or sitting down. Make sure you find a position that is comfortable for you. This may take some experimenting but you will be relaxed and find it easier when you are comfortable with your positon.
3.Get access to a keyboard. In my head, I always try to go back to the piano, and the relativity of notes. Sit at the piano and practice. I find this really helps.
4. Be patient. It will come just be patient with it. Keep on practicing day in day out don´t get fed up or give up as it is something that will come with time. No you will not beable to read music straight away just keep pursuing it and you will get there.
5.Learn to read in various positions on the guitar Get a feel for which keys work better for various positions. For example, some places on the guitar neck work great for flat keys (like F, Bb, Eb) and other places work better for sharp keys (G, D, A, etc).
6.Start with simple tunes first. Don´t go out and buy the sheet music for your fave rock band when you first start. Yes its something good top aim for but start with the simple stuff first till you have mastered it.
7.Practice looking straight ahead in the music as you play. If you try to read everything at the instant you need to play it, it makes it much more difficult to stay with the music. Practice looking ahead slightly to catch the next few notes before you need to play them.
