What Does The Bible Have To Say About Marriage?
The printing press’ first product was the Bible which went on to become the most highly sold book in the world. Its sayings are known throughout the world, however not many people truly understand the wisdom it delivers. The Bible was written as God’s plan for us. Any given situation is discussed in the Bible and lets you know how God wants you to handle that situation. Marriage is one of the main themes discussed in the Bible. God tells us right away in Genesis that it isn’t right for man to be alone, and then he went about creating a woman to be man’s partner for the purposes of companionship and procreation. Marriage is clearly defined by God in the Bible. It is a union between one man and one woman. God lets us know that you will commit a sin if you partake in any other type of union. Paul discusses God’s wrath against mankind in the book of Romans. He says that God’s anger was piqued when “their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones with lust for one another.” Then he goes on to tell us “Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion.”
Even without this vivid description of how people were already using sex and marriage inappropriately, we can also get a picture of the way that true husbands and wives are supposed to be. Unfortunately, some of this advice can be unpalatable to modern women, and we need to keep in mind that Paul was speaking to an ancient audience within the morals of that time. Back then, it was a woman’s job to obey her husband and allow him to lead the house. Husbands are first supposed to leave their parents, then marry a wife whom he loves as he loves himself.
There is no mention of divorce plans in the Bible. If you read the book of Matthew, you will clearly see that Jesus said that “anyone who divorces his wife, except for marital unfaithfulness and marries another woman commits adultery.” He also says that it is not vital that one get married. However, if one can accept the marital teachings, then it is fine for him to marry. However, only a husband and wife should have children.
