The Beatles USB Memory Stick
The Beatles are one of the few bands who have never made their music available to be bought as mp3 downloads on AmazonMP3 or iTunes. Actually, I don’t think any other platinum selling band is still holding out on digital downloads. When it was announced that The Beatles were finally releasing their music digitally on December 8 of 2009 most fans just assumed that it meant that their music was going to be available but that is not true, instead they have gone another way: The Beatles USB Flash Drive.
The Beatles “Apple” USB stick contains the remastered Beatles in Stereo box set except clearly in a far different form than the CDs and DVD included in the box set. This Beatles USB flash drive that you can easily hold in the palm of your hand includes all of the same elements as the much larger box set.
It contains all of the remastered Beatles stereo tracks in the box set two times because it has 320kbps mp3s and 44.1kHz/24bit FLACs. I am certain you are familiar with mp3s (and the 320kbps mp3s in this USB are of very high quality) but how about those 24bit FLAC files, what what is FLAC? Simply put FLAC files are considered to be “lossless” which means they do not have any loss of sound quality like mp3s do. And since these FLAC files are actually 24bit instead of the 16bit files that are on compact discs, they are actually of superior quality in comparison with CDs.
What this means is that The Beatles USB flash drive now contains the best quality version of The Beatles remastered stereo mixes! Of course, this might change in the future if they decide to release these remasters on Blu-Ray or DVD but at the moment this is the holy grail for audiophiles when it comes to The Beatles remasters.
How about the original mono mixes? Sadly they are not included on this USB memory stick. You still have to purchase The Beatles Remastered Mono Box Set to get those mixes.
