Good Clubs Like The The Webster Theater Want Bands With Draws

There are specific things you need to book your 1st gig, but bios, demos, and websites are not amongst the list. If you need clubs or promoters to book your group then you will need people at your shows. That’s correct, you need people and the more the better. Clubs may well ask you for a bio or to see your web-site they may well even ask you to send a demo, but the truth is very few clubs listen to demos when booking their shows. Getting booked can be outline in 4 basic steps, and if you follow these steps you’ll never need to read another post on how you really should start a band coalition or start at the bottom to get gigs.

Step 1   Choose a venue that’s prefect for your group You’re going to need to pick the correct venue for your group. Choose one that is the perfect size and has other groups in your genre playing there. It’s a great idea to pick a club where you yourself would go to see a concert. For example The Orpheum would be a great choice for most bands in the Tampa area, in Charlotte look into The Tremont Music Hall Charlotte  These clubs cater to national, regional and local talent and are generally looking for the groups to sell out their venues.

Step 2   Reach the individual in charge of booking Right after you pick your venue make contact with the booking agent. The most effective way to offer your group is in person or over the telephone, but that’s not normally possible. Most clubs use e-mail to book their shows these days. So go to their web-site and see how they like to be approached.

This may seem odd, but smaller venue will be picker about your group’s style, and degree of professionalism.  Given that smaller sized venues do not need to have as many customers to fill their space they can be far more selective.  The bigger the venue the less they care about the quality of your music, and the more they care about the size of your groups draw, but make no mistake even the smaller sized venues only book groups that can bring people to their venue.

Step 3   Promise to bring an appropriate crowd All you need to do is to communicate to them that you are willing to bring a great crowd to their venue. So, however you make contact, may it be email, telephone or in person let them know you’re ready to work to bring a crowd. Understand that they need to have customers to survive and great music doesn’t ensure that for them, and only bands that can draw a crowd help them to pay their expenditures. This truth causes venues to make booking choices primarily based on draw and not talent. Find out what their expectations are for new groups in terms of draw; if you can reach their request ask for the show.

Step 4   Keep your Promise After you speak to the club, and booked your show there is only one final thing to do and that is to maintain your promise. Most venues will ask you to try to bring 30-75 people, and if you ever want to play there again make certain to keep your promise. If you are successful in keeping your promise, then point it out to the promoter and ask for your next show.

The groups that can bring people to their shows end up with all the good gigs.  If you’re in a local group you will want to be in one of those groups.  So write great songs, put on good shows and develop a huge fan base.
