Enjoying the Rich Historical Legacy of Spain’s Architecture
History leaves its footprints in many unusual manner; it can leave its mark on a nation’s language, arts, and most especially in its architecture. It’s just that architectural structures can effortlessly be lost through wars, through the ravages of time, and by formulating way to the structures of a new era. You’ll find it quite impressive that they’ve even managed to preserve structures that were created many centuries before Christ; most of them can even be thought as well-preserved.
Planning a vacation doesn’t just involve having the money to spend for it, although of course this is a big factor in being able to move around the country. You could be looking at maps, booking rental cars and hotels, and planning your routes; though, don’t forget the essentials of such a trip because your convenience and safety should come first. It could be useful to stir a search engine and browse sites such as Rocket Spanish to make sure that you know a few Spanish sentences or phrases to help you verbalize what you need and to help you ask locals for aid easily; make sure you know how to ask for directions to important buildings like hospitals, police stations, and the embassy. Rocket Spanish lessons is an excellent tool that can aid you in learning to speak Spanish.
If you ask the locals where you can locate the deepest-rooted architectural structures in Spain, you’ll perhaps be headed for toward the Balearic Islands where there are structures dating back thousands of years ago during the Bronze Age. The structures in the Balearic Islands consist mostly of buildings erected during the Bronze Age; most of these structures are vaults and funeral chambers, and a few of them work as defensive structures. Other prehistoric structures like those in the walled villages of Avila show the obvious Iberian and Celtic influences and also the truth that there was some sort of urban planning already in place during those times because of the grid-like arrangements of houses and roads.
During the Roman period in Spain, a rise in religious buildings can be noted, which isn’t exactly a stagger, given that the Roman conquest also caused their strong religious influence on Spain. Many churches were built during these time like the temples of Cordoba and the Talavera la Vieja, along with others. Other typical Roman structures like grand lighthouses and aqueducts were also built; perhaps the most common of these would be the Aqueduct of Segovia which is, until now, very well preserved.
One of the most well-preserved remembrances of Roman influence on Spain is the Aqueduct of Segovia which is still standing until this day. However, things alter and so does the architectural trends in Spain; Roman influence was slowly replaced by Gothic influence. There’s still a restricted Roman influence on the design, but it’s already unmistakably Gothic.
There are so many other structures that are worth visiting in Spain and which will genuinely give you an insight about their history. In fact, to be able to see them all, you’ll require to spend several months in the country.
