Zumba Latin Dancing inspired aerobics dance in the Zumba Workout. The word Zumba comes from a Colombian word meaning to move fast and have fun, and that is exactly what I did! When I went to my first Zumba class I really didn’t know what to expect. With my dance background, I thought it would look like I took dance lessons with perhaps a dash of fitness. It’s not until the next day when you’re feeling a little ‘sensitive’ in certain muscles that you realize how much of a workout you just had. I was literally, panting and dripping with sweat.
Zumba dancing in a word is just nonstop FUN; unlike a dance class there is no breakdown of steps you just follow the teacher or the Zumba DVD from song to song. They are generally easy to move with some of these harder thrown in for good measure, you can see the class is a great feeling of accomplishment when mastered. The beginning starts out slow and as you move through each step routine the difficulty increases gradually over each routine. In one hour you touch on so many dance styles, Reggaeton, Salsa, Cumbia, Hip Hop, and Merengue to name but a few and you even do a bit of Beyonce booty shaking which I thoroughly enjoy. The music is too contagious, Zumba Latin Dance has a few songs one minute and changes beats and intensity at the drop of a hat.
You can easily understand why I couldn’t wait to become a qualified Zumba teacher myself and I couldn’t be happier I made the move. Dancing is the best way to really experience this new enthusiasm. I found myself doing it 2 and 3 times a week as once is just not enough, trust me its awesome fun. It’s very addictive when you see crazy results from losing weight as well as getting toned, I actually have definition now. A word of advice, there are a number of great articles of clothing that you can use for training, exercise and Zumba. You will not want to wear cotton or other materials that absorb a lot of moisture as this will make you uncomfortable. For women you can wear something similar to Yoga clothing.
