The Essentials of Learning Music Theory

Some people may probably wonder that if they can carry a tune or play an instrument without learning how to interpret music sheets, that learning music theory is unnecessary. Talent may be a substitute for classroom instruction, right? Sure, you can play good music and start an alternative band and be an excellent musician without learning music theory, but you can do more to your music that you can probably express better if you familiar with music theory.
If you are in doubt of whether to take music theory or not, here is an analogy that might be pretty advantageous in making up your mind. Obviously, not all people are meant to become writers. Poetry and prose can only be made by a few people who can translate their ideas into writing. A writer can use as an additional tool that enables to effectively express his thoughts and ideas the knowledge of the intricacies of language such as grammar and vocabulary. In using words more efficiently obligates writers to know language and grammar. The art of writing necessitates the substantial learning and discipline to be aware of language and grammar. But being familiar with the ins and outs of language and grammar does not necessarily mean that one can be a writer that easily.
An example is a person who likes to cook. Somebody can naturally understand how ingredients work, how a combination of taste and flavors can be converted into a wonderful dish. But when one actually goes to a cooking school to learn the basics of cooking, a person’s natural gift in appreciating flavors can be enhanced and improved. By doing so, a structured approach to learning will be attained as well as make sense of your inborn talent to understand flavors.
In short, before you can bend rules to your own will, you would have to know them first. It’s great if you could strum your guitar by ear, it is a talent. Steve Krenz shows us who’s the man in his course, Learn and Master Guitar. Even without using music sheet, you can be a great guitar player by applying your talent to recognize notes and put them together. But in order to be great at guitar playing, you would have to learn music idea. It is easier to share your music with other musicians because by writing your own music, you also share the same language and know the same education on the “grammar” and technicalities. Its given that even if you know the notes of music as well as the back of your hand, nothing can defeat real talent.
You can still learn how to make good music if you have the discipline to master music theory even if it doesn’t inevitably manage to make you an artist out of a musician. Good music may someday become inspired music. With hard work and consistency, it will pay off in the end.
