A Peek on Spain’s Music Beginnig and the Well-known Flamenco
Music and Dance are very amazing art forms that mostly go with one another; each culture has a different tradition of music and dance to contribute to the world. In each country and in every culture, music plays a vital role in society; it is utilized a variety of purposes such as traditions, religious acts, entertainment and a whole lot more.
The musical culture of Spain is one of the richest in the world because of the many different influences that it has; it’s not unlike how the architectural trends in the country had been greatly influenced by different cultures throughout history. Roman and Greek practice have had a lot of affecting factors on Spanish music for a long generation, although Spain also freed her doors to other foreign cultural influences such as the Visigoths, Moors, and Jewish influences. To deeply appreciate Spain’s art and music, it is a must to have a trip to Spain and experience it for yourself, however you first need to understand and be able to talk some basic Spanish language, and the easiest way to achieve that is to search for websites like Rocket Spanish which offer basic Spanish lessons as well as basic Spanish cultural lessons. Rocket Spanish lessons can help you learn the Spanish language as it employs various study methods for a very effective learning experience.
When one thinks about Spanish music, one cannot help but think about Flamenco because it is, surely, one of the most famous dance forms that came from Spain. Contrary to popular belief, it is only popular to one region in Spain called Andalusia, an autonomous community which is believed to be secode most massive in terms of land area in the country. Most people have no idea that Flamenco was not really accepted as a popular music and dance form before, and a lot of the information found about the Flamenco can be accounted for by its troubled history.
Flamenco is divided into three parts and is made up of the guitar, the dance, and the song elements. You’ll notice this style adapted and transformed by other countries’ music and dance forms. Glossing over its acclaim all over the world, it would probably come as a surprise to you that very little is known of the ancestry of Flamenco.
Studying the ancestry of Flamenco, you will be led to a hard time, wherein many people have biases against the lower levels of society which are the Gypsies who have a big influence on the origins of Flamenco. Studies also shows that there’s a connection of gypsy dance culture and the descendants of Moorish music in the 8th century until 17th century in the ancestry of Flamenco; still many also believe that apart from gypsy dance and Moorish music, there is also influence of music from Egypt, India, and the Byzantine church which played a big part in influencing this art form. Because Flamenco was mostly performed by the lower levels of society, the upper class people does not have enough interest to give significance to it and the historians did not gave much bearing to it and recorded very little information about it. Another reason for difficulties in determining the origin of Flamenco is that the lower class people have no education and cannot write and they just kept the music through oral traditions; worst of all, the Jews, Muslims and Gitanos, which make up the lower class, were being tortured throughout the period of Spanish Inquisition.
Researchers and historians, as well as experts our time are still trying to determine the exact roots and history of Flamenco; it’s not even sure where and how Flamenco got its name. Nonetheless, no one can erase the reality that Flamenco has a major role on the dance culture all across the world.
